"Dial a Ride" is a community senior-citizens transportation project of the City of Marshall. We budgeted $1500 for the year and as of June 9 we reached that amount exactly.
Lions Quest is a youth development and awareness program that unites the home, school and community to cultivate capable and healthy young people of strong character. Lions Quest helps students grow into solid citizens as they learn how to make responsible decisions, communicate effectively and avoid drugs and violence. The Marshall Lions have been involved with the Marshall Middle School's Lions Quest program for three years. On May 4 we donated $250 to the school program.
The final tally for White Cane Days is $1468.96. There were no expenses this year because we still had mint candies on hand. Congratulations to Lion Doug Smith who chaired the event. Thank you to all club members and spouses/friends who helped make this another successful project.
The final totals for the Vidalia Onion Sale have also been tabulated. We collected $2,160 from customers and the expenses were: $1080 to Morris Farms in Georgia and $120.05 for shipping/freight to Sercombe Trucking Company in Jackson, MI., for a profit of $959.95. Not too shabby for a first time event. Thanks to all Lions who participated in the sale. Special appreciation to Lions Doug Smith and Bruce Bidelman who provided transportation from Jackson to Marshall; Lion Charlie Parker for providing the staging area at Marshall Fairgrounds; Lion Don Weberling who spent some time distributing onions; Maureen Dauphinais and Dakota Barnes who also distributed onions; Lions Peggy and Barry Allen for purchasing $300 worth of onions for the Manchester and Clinton Lion Clubs; and especially the Marshall Ad Visor and Chronicle staff of Donna Daines and Corinne Kellogg who ran an article we'd written about the onions for TWO SUCCESSIVE WEEKS! Without the help of Donna and Corinne, we wouldn't have made anywhere near the amount we did. With the assistance of all of the persons mentioned, we've increased the ability of our club to continue to assist our community!
Marshall Lions Club Picnic will be between the Merchants Building and Belcher Building at the Marshall Fairgrounds on July 26, 2011.
Idle Thought: The Marshall Lions should budget money to present awards to people who have participated in Lion projects, but are not Lion members.
Lion Mike Dauphinais, acting as Zone Chairman for Region 3, Zone 2, inducted the officers of the Battle Creek Host Club on June 21; gave a Habitat for Humanity program to the North Adams Lions Club on June 13; and sold books for the Lions of District 11-B1 Habitat Fund on June 16-19 at the Michigan Center Lions Club's Carp Carnival.
The Michigan Lions All State Band is scheduled to perform at the Albion College Chapel in Albion, MI., at 7:00 p.m. on June 30, 2011.
The District 11 B1 Sight Mobile will be in Manchester on July 5 and Tekonsha (Durham Park Festival) on July 23.
The Lions International Convention is being held on July 4-7 in Seattle Washington.
